Drunken Childhood Flames

Memories:

- Up and Down on the See-Saw, a pile up of youths
- Sitting on top of an arc shaped climbing frame - swinging legs
- Hanging off a roundabout... Whoosh
- Huddling in groups and belting out at the top of our lungs
- Unimpressed boys
- Listening intently to lyrics - Sobbing
- Bottles of Kiwi 20/20
- Lying on Concrete/Tarmac-ed floors, the world spinning

A group of us aged 12 to 14 used to meet at the local play area, called: The Play-area. I was somewhere in the middle of this age bracket and would rush through the school day anticipating the after school get together. Weekends were the most fun, where my curfew was raised from weeknight 9pm to weekend 10pm... Whoa.

"Meet you at the Play-area!"

A load of us local kids would get together and share the fags and booze we had managed to get hold of and play on swings with oppressive head rushes. The more we drank, the more us ladies sang... In unison... 1.2.3.

At one point we were called the "Dummy Crew" this was because we would walk around with a dummy attached to a piece of string, which we would pop in our mouths or simply let hang.

When we sang - it hung.

What did we sing?

Anything and everything we knew by heart, the most favorite choice was always... The Bangles - Eternal Flame.

Dramatic Times.

Present Day

I haven't thought of or heard this fab song for years... However last weekend I was down in Londres celebrating my childhood friends 30th Day, it was the end of the night and we were hopping into a taxi, feeling girly and fun and before you know it I had located this tune on my IPhone and there we were slipping back in time once again belting out our Bangles favorite.

It felt great.

The taxi driver didn't seem to mind, he drove on and we sang. Think; delirium meets nostalgia.

For me the most exciting part of this song is its intro. The tapping of the drums strikes a chord and you know what is about to come... Feels amaze, I don't think I will ever be able to hear this song and not sing in time. In fact I am singing now, only in my heads mind.

Here are some pics from My Girls Dirty Flirty Thirty we went Kayaking which was an interesting choice of activities. This turned out to be surprisingly enjoyable, we followed this outdoor pursuit with dancing... Dancing on the stage. Dancing on Chairs. Dancing on the Dancefloor.
