Nail Art For Dummies: Spooked Out!

Halloween is a-coming! Aahhhhhhhhh, love this holiday! Another reason why I should be a young American; we just don't celebrate it enough over here... So, dull. I get all spook defeatist - if we ain't gonna do it properly then why bother at all?

- A pumpkin here or there
- The odd witches hat
- Possibly an eye ball or two floating in a bowl of jelly

Kids trick or treating a week in advance, pocketing cash to pay for their fags...

Enough negativity, oops.

Let's Get Spook-ified!

Spooky Nails for spooky celebrations... Pourquoi pas? I got together with one of my girls and we came up with some simple, basic designs for you to try or improve on at home.

GET.YOUR.SPOOK.ON

First Look: Webtastic

What you will need:
1. Black Nail Polish - I used MUA (Shade 1)
2. White Nail Polish - I used Barry M (Matt White)
3. Instant Nail Effect Crackle in White - I used Barry M (White Frost)
4. Black Nail Art Pen - I used Models Own Nail Art Pen (Black)

Note: I used what I had and always try to use up and work with what is there. Waste sucks.

How to make your nails Webtastic:
1. Paint all fingers except the thumb with black polish.
2. Paint thumb white.
3. Once dry - Go over the black polish with the white crackle... Shatter... POW.
4. Once dry - Use the Art Pen to get creative on your thumb. I drew a web, which I did not practise before-hand.. Have a quick go on paper first.

Et Voila; Webtastic Nails!

Second Look: Creepy and Crawly

What you will need:
1. Black Nail Polish - I used MUA (Shade 1)
2. White Nail Polish - I used Barry M (Matt White)
3. French Manicure Tape - My Girls
4. Black Nail Art Pen - I used Models Own Nail Art Pen (Black)

Note: After using manicure tape, don't screw it up and bin it. Peel it off gently and put it back in the pack so you can re-use and then guess what? Re-use.

Note: Instead of using manicure tape you can use sellotape.

How to make your nails Creepy and Crawly:
1. Paint all nails white.
2. Once Dry - Stick Manicure tape on to all fingers except thumbs.
3. Use black polish to paint the tips.
4. Once Dry - Gently peel off (and save!)
5. Use the Nail Art Pen to draw your super cute spider. This is beyond simple: Circle for body and 4 lines on either side for the sweet-hearts legs.

Done and done.

I did one hand of each design... Like so:

Third Look: Happy Pumpkin

What you will need:
1. Orange Nail Polish - I used Barry M (Block Orange)
2. Green Nail Polish - I used Barry M (Spring Green)
3. French Manicure Tape - My Girls
4. Black Nail Art Pen - I used Models Own Nail Art Pen (Black)

How to make your nails Creepy and Crawly:
1. Paint all nails orange.
2. Once Dry - Stick Manicure tape on to all fingers..
3. Use green polish to paint the tips.
4. Once Dry - Gently peel off (and save!)
5. Use the Nail Art Pen to draw your happy pumpkin face. I did little triangles for the eyes and a wiggly mouth. Love his handsome face!

These look great! I’m going to Alton Towers on saturday, in fancy dress, I’m going to try out these nails too!

    Thank you :-)

I wanted to do the white crackle effect but couldn’t get the nail varnish anywhere! In the end, i had to go unpainted because my brother and his girlfriend arrived without fancy dress and the rest of us had so I spent my nail-painting time whipping up two costumes from nothing!
