"My tea's gone cold I'm wondering why I? Got out of bed at all The morning rain clouds up my window And I can't see at all..."
How does hearing this line make you feel?? Hmmm? Well, I can tell you it makes me get all excited, little butterflies are let free in my veins and I can not wait for the song and its story to unfold.
When did you first "Experience" Stan?
Ha ha, "Experience" could come off as a tad dramatic, but i'll keep it. Eminem released this track in the year 2000 and it was HUGE.
I remember the first time I heard it, I was at a house party and a girl called Alex pulled out a CD and told us all to sit down and listen... There was a whole load of "quiet, quiet... Shhhh come on guys listen!" So we sat not sure what to expect and then it happened a room full of intoxicated youths sharing a moving moment. We travelled this journey as a collective; smiles, frowns, simple disbelief. We had "experienced" sheer lyrical genius at the hands of Mr Mathers.
- The room turned sombre and silent.
- Let's hear it again
- Again
Late arrivals and those who missed out on the initial "listening" were made to sit and go through the process... While we watched.
Enjoying the expected reactions, trying not to give anything away... You've not heard nothing yet... Wait.
Sharing Stan
Having gone through the initiation it was only natural that the torch would be passed on and it was through numerous households across the globe the magic of this song was shared.
I was 18 at the time of release and bursting with hormones, so it is little wonder that my peers and I were so effected by this song, I can only imagine the dramatics involved when it touched the ears of the younger teens... Total heart-attack!
Obviously "I grew up" and Eminem released a number of other out-there tracks as did other artists making Stan seem less special. So, I am over the moon to share with you this:
I listened to Stan over the weekend and it felt amazing!
Fave Dramatic Stan Moments
"If you didn't wanna talk to me outside your concert
You didn't have to, but you coulda signed an autograph for Matthew
That's my little brother man, he's only six years old
We waited in the blistering cold for you,
For four hours and you just said, "No."
"Dear Mister "I'm Too Good To Call Or Write My Fans",
This will be the last package I ever send your ass
It's been six months and still no word, I don't deserve it?
I know you got my last two letters;
I wrote the addresses on 'em perfect"
"See Slim,
Shut up Bitch! I'm tryin' to talk!
Hey Slim, that's my girlfriend screamin' in the trunk
But I didn't slit her throat, I just tied her up, see I ain't like you
Cause if she suffocates she'll suffer more, and then she'll die too
Well, gotta go, I'm almost at the bridge now..."
"I seen this one dick on the news a couple weeks ago that made me sick
Some dude was drunk and drove his car over a bridge
And had his girlfriend in the trunk, and she was pregnant with his kid
And in the car they found a tape, but they didn't say who it was to
Come to think about, his name was, it was you
Damn!"
Today is TuNesday and naturally I am sharing this fab-u-saurus song with you. I have a renewed passion for Eminem, total rapper crush.
Note: All swearing has been beeped out - Very annoying!
