This Monday I went off on a fleeting trip to Paris. My girl had some travel vouchers to spend and asked if I wanted to join her? Oui.
We were only going for one night so it was decided that we were going to pack super light and keep things frugal. Think: Only one pair of shoes & bottoms for the whole trip... I decided on a pair of navy shiny American Apparel leggings, a simple navy H&M t-shirt and a light blazer (Urban Outfitters) with my Acne Leather for warmth. You can't clearly see what I picked out in the below pic, however, you can see the beautiful blue sky peeking through...
I was really conscious that I needed to pack light as I knew I'd be carrying my stuff for the majority of the stay. So was Erin (my travel companion). This is what we chose as our Paris travel essentials.
It wasn't just belongings that we had to be tight with, cash was also a matter that needed to be kept in check. With only 95 Euros of disposable income, Paris needed to be done on the cheap...
Throughout the trip I kept a tally on all my spending so that I could share it with you guys and show you how a city break can be fun at little cost.
My Total Spend = €92.15
Erin's Total Spend = €93.65
Knowing that I couldn't spend more than the cash in my wallet and keeping tabs on things made spending less - more enjoyable. I had been intending to borrow an extra 20 Euros off Erin but in the end didn't have to... I came home with a couple of gifts for myself and a couple of Euros change.
Although the money situ worked out well, the packing... Not so much. Our lightly packed bags weighed down on us so much so that we were desperate to get to the hotel (we couldn't check in till 5pm but arrived at 10am). With aching arms and swollen feet we collapsed in our suburban hotel at 5 on the dot and were more than happy when we were able to start exploring sans baggage.
We made an executive: First thing in the morning we were going to go to the train station and drop off these suffocating items so that we could enjoy the rest of our time. As well as excess weight my outfit choices proved not so fab.
Paris decided to be scorching, my legs itched, sweated & reflected in shining nylon. I had no sunglasses, thick woolen socks and left my vest top in the locker.
Aside my moaning it was marvelous Paris was radiant. I walked and explored sweat patched et al.
