The Perfect Base Dress – Tips for Layering

Hey there hot-stuff, hope your weekend was more eventful than mine. I spent my Friday night lying on the sofa catching up on Geordie Shore Season 2, when I say "catching up" I'm talking 7 episodes on the trot, with toilet, food & drink breaks only. It was quite an intense evening... My ODD boy-crush on Gaz Beadle blossomed, by the end of my session I felt fully connected with my new group of Geordie-Pals.

The rest of the weekend involved admiring all the amaze Nail-Pics that I've been sent for my Models Own Competition and lots of lazying about... Eating, editing pictures & watching crap-amaze TV.

There was a window of fun however, Saturday was lovely, my girl Gem came round and we hung out and took pics... And got a little philosophical here and there, pourquoi pas?

Outfit Inspiration - Go To Looks

What I wanted to share with you today was a simple layering technique... This is not a new concept from me, I am always banging on about:

- Layering
- Making the most of your wardrobe
- Experimenting with what you already have
- Mixing it up

In fact I wrote a layering post for the gorge Fashion Style Advice a while back on The Art of Layering using not only the same dress but a shared view present in this post.

I wanted to share a go to look... Well more like 6 looks but all with the same principle & the same key item:

A black American Apparel two tone mini dress this is a dress that I've had for at least 5 years, I would no longer wear it as it is (as I am not very keen on the 2 tone) however, It is a fab layer-base.

- Decent Length - Suiting a range of occasions
- Tight fit - So it's feminine and a little sexy (ugh... gross word)

You can work this item in a selection of ways from super casual to hot-mama... It really is the perfect pull-something-over-me piece.

The tops that I've chosen to layer with are mostly cropped, they're a little short to wear easily with most bottoms, however, they are perfect for pulling over this type of dress & they provide the illusion of a high-waisted look - A look I like!

6 Looks 1 Base

Top Number 1: This was a gift from an old work colleague, I love the navy/black mix. It's simple but stands as one of my fave tops

Top Number 2: Is a New Look cashmere jumper that shrunk to child-size in the wash, instead of getting rid I use it for exactly this kind of outfit.

Top Number 3: Love this striped number... I bought it when I was 21 (9 yrs ago... Ouch) it has ridiculous holes under the arms, I possibly need to let go but need more time. (To see the holes click here).

Top Number 4: This gorge little Marc Jacobs Cardi was an amazing Beacons Closet (NY) steal at only $10.

Top Number 5: I don't wear this ribbed Topshop top enough and am going to try and incorporate it into another look soon.

Top Number 6: My grandad's shirt - One that has popped up on here a lot and will continue to... It's a fave.

Big HUGE thanks to my girl Gem Greaves for taking the pics!! xoxoxooxo
