Growing up family car journeys always began with a little ritual of us collectively asking St Christopher to protect us. In case you aren’t aware St Christopher is the Saint of Travel, to this day whenever I am travelling beyond my daily journeys or if ever I am feeling ill at ease in any mode of transport I call upon this Saint. Not in the same way as I did as a child, that was 2 parents and 2 to 4 children chanting in unison:
“Petit saint Christophe protège nous”
Since travelling alone I have developed my own ways of reciting this line in a private leaning on OCD-esque manner.
These 5 words have always worked at putting me at ease, so I am really happy that my brothers and sister got together to get me a St Christopher pendant for my Birthday, the perfect travel companion for China, non?
